The
Volta River Authority (VRA)
is the main generator and supplier of electricity
in
Ghana.
Currently,
VRA contributes 2,104.5
MW of
the total generation in Ghana. IPPs
and other plants generate 726
MW. Ghana
generates
electric
power
from hydropower,
thermal
energy,
and renewable
energy
sources.
Electricity transmission is under the operations of
Ghana Grid Company.The
distribution of electricity is under Northern Electricity Distribution Company
and
Electricity Company of Ghana.

VRA plants

TAPCO (T1) has an installed capacity of 330 MW
- TICO (T2) has an installed capacity of 220 MW. Takoradi International Company (90% owned by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company and 10% by VRA) owned and operated the approximately 224 MW open cycleTakoradi II power production facility, located within the Takoradi Thermal Power Plant complex at Aboadze in the Western Region of Ghana . TICO intended to convert the T2 Plant to a combined cycle power plant, thereby increasing the total installed capacity to 342 MW.
